It’s no secret I’m a Trader Joe’s groupie and with good reason. I’m constantly inspired by new ingredients that seem to pop up weekly. The store’s innovative products make it easy to serve up homemade and homemade-ish (my quip for making something homemade with a little help from the grocery store) on the daily.

During one of my recent hauls, I discovered their Ginger Miso Broth and got inspired to overhaul my Easy Miso Ramen recipe. The broth takes the noodles to the next level and I’ve added crisp, bright green Napa cabbage (don’t you just love their ready-to-use bag in the produce section), as well as crispy teriyaki tofu.

Perfect for those chilly evenings or when you’re simply craving something warm and satisfying, this recipe promises to deliver flavor and convenience, in just 20 minutes.

Why I Love This Recipe

You don’t need to be a seasoned chef to serve up this ramen recipe. While most ramen recipes intimidate me, I created this straightforward recipe for the home chef warrior with a nightly mission to get a delicious dinner on the table in about 30 minutes or less.

Using some of my favorite Trader Joe’s ingredients, it’s easy to create a delicious, hearty bowl of miso ramen. From the savory (and just the right amount of salty) Ginger Miso Broth to the crispy Organic Baked Teriyaki Flavor Tofu and Miso Ramen cup of noodles, every bite is a slurp-ful of textures and tastes. Complete with fresh veggies and customizable toppings, it’s not just a meal—it’s an experience. Let’s get cooking and bring a spoonful of yum to your table tonight!

What is Miso Ramen?

Ramen is a Japanese noodle dish with roots in Chinese noodle dishes. It typically consists of wheat noodles served in a rich, often meat-based broth. It is enhanced with various toppings such as sliced pork, nori (seaweed), menma (bamboo shoots), and scallions.

However, ramen is much more than a simple noodle dish ramen, and has evolved into numerous regional varieties, showcasing an array of broths (from the soy sauce-infused shoyu to the creamy, pork-based tonkotsu), noodle types, and unique toppings that reflect local flavors and ingredients.

This 6-ingredient version takes a handful of products from Trader Joe’s to create a plant-based variation that features all of the traditional flavors we love in ramen.

Ingredients & Substitutions for 6-Ingredient Trader Joe's Miso Ramen

TJ’s Ginger Miso Broth

This umami-rich broth combines the complex savory flavor of miso with the warm, zesty kick of ginger, giving the ramen a slightly salty undertone with a hint of sweetness.

Organic Baked Teriyaki Tofu

We’re swapping the traditional pork tonkotsu with crispy cubes of this pre-seasoned and baked block of tofu for not only protein, but also texture.

TJ’s Miso Ramen

This cup of noodles is the basis for this recipe and contains the noodles and seasoning packet for the ramen. (Ditch the oil packet inside or reserve for a different use.)

Asian Vegetables

Napa cabbages comes pre-chopped and ready to use in the refrigerated section of the store, along with shiitake mushrooms and baby bok choy. Each of these vegetables adds its own uniqueness texture and flavor to the ramen.

Toasted Sesame Oil (optional)

To add more Asian flavors to the dish, I saute the tofu cubes in this oil to crisp them up.

Substitutions

This recipe has only been tested with products using miso. However, miso free ramen and broth may be swapped. Replace the tofu with a soy free tempeh or omit.

For gluten allergies, use gluten-free noodles instead of ramen, such as buckwheat soba noodles.
